“The Conservatory of Flowers”

The Conservatory of Flowers is a national, state and local landmark, officially California “Landmark Number 841”.  Built in 1879, the Conservatory of Flowers was the first formal structure erected in Golden Gate Park and remains an icon at the Park entrance. The Conservatory is filled with flowers, foliage, and plants from around the world, concentrating on tropical plants.  The five distinct galleries each focus on a different ecosystem, ranging from rainforest to the cloud forests perched on top of mountains.  The Conservatory is engaged in important conservation and education work, keeping rare and unusual plants on display since 1879.
